Cabaret Au Lapin Agile
In keeping with the Butte's sulphurous reputation, this cabaret was successively known as the "Thieves' Rendezvous" and then the "Murderers' Cabaret". The caricaturist André Gill had made it one of his favourite haunts, and one of his customers wrote on the wall "Là peint A. Gill" ("There painted A. Gill"). Gill", which Gill changed to "Lapin Agile" and drew the famous rabbit in a red scarf jumping out of the copper pan. (The original painting is in the Musée de Montmartre at the top of the vineyards).

Louis Alexandre Gosset de Guinnes known as Gill André. A cartoonist, he contributed to various newspapers. During the siege, he was a member of the national guard. During the Commune, he was a member of the federation of artistsDuring the Commune, he was appointed temporary administrator of the Musée du Luxembourg.
