Montmartre Museum

The current Musée de Montmartre, located at 12 rue Cortot, has been home to many of Montmartre's artists, and today tells their stories as well as the general history of the Butte. One room is devoted to the Paris Commune, featuring a bust of Louise Michel and the original of the Lapin Agile fresco painted by André Gill.

This is also where the lodge of Père Tanguy, a colour merchant and friend of the Impressionists, was located. Vincent Van Gogh painted several portraits of him. But who remembers that he was also a communard and was imprisoned for it on a pontoon in Brest harbour?
