Yvan SALMON was born in the Vosges in 1848. Under the same pen name as his elder brother (Louis Noir), he wrote for the "Pilori" and later for "La Marseillaise". La Marseillaise "Henri Rochefort's newspaper. He was assassinated in January 1870 by Pierre Bonaparte, the Emperor's cousin, who was acquitted. His funeral was attended by over 100,000 people and almost turned into an insurrection. It was seen as a prelude to the fall of the Second Empire and the Parisian revolt. His remains were transferred to Père-Lachaise in 1891, and his bronze recumbent by Jules Dalou became the object of a curious superstition...
