François Jourde (1843 - 1893)


His grave, which was in division 3, has disappeared and his bones have been transferred to Père Lachaise.

Francis (or François) Jourde was an elected member of the Commune for the 5th arrondissement and was elected to the Finance Committee on 29 March.

He was the author of various projects: on maturity dates, the Mont-de-Piété, and pensions for the wives, married or not, of national guards killed "in defence of the rights of the people".

He strongly opposed the creation of the Comité de Salut Public.

Sentenced to deportation to New Caledonia, he escaped in the company of Rochefort in 1874.

He was buried in the Montparnasse cemetery on 24 March 1893 in the presence of, amongst others Édouard Vaillant, Léo Frankel, Jules Martelet and Zéphirin Camélinat. "The friends of the deceased had wanted to place a red flag on the coffin, but the police prevented them from doing so.
