The Audiovisual Room

A tour of the museum begins in the audiovisual room. A 12-minute multimedia presentation allows visitors to witness significant moments of the costuming and parades of the Mamuthones and Issohadores, starting on the feast of Saint Anthony (17 January) and running through to the traditional pre-Lenten Carnival. The feast of Saint Anthony is the most important celebration in the town. Large fires are lit in each neighborhood. On their first outing, the Mamuthones and Issohadores parade around these fires, renewing the propitiatory rite of their ancestors – a ritual linked to the four seasons, to a cult of water and harvests, rooted in the world of farming and herding. This celebration opens the Carnival of Mamoiada.
