You can visit the Palais-Royal at any time of day, including in the early evening (before the closure of the garden) when Buren's columns are illuminated.We recommend trying to visit the Palais during the "Journées du Patrimoine" which take place every year during the month of September, as you can then enter the Ministry and see the "Grand Escalier" (plan to arrive early).
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and you will not have to walk long distances between each stage.
